Caring for beeswax candles

How do you care for and store beeswax candles in a jar for a longer burn time?

Beeswax candles in a jar are not only atmospheric but also practical because they drip less and are protected from drafts. To fully enjoy your candles and extend their lifespan, it's important to care for and store them properly. Here are some helpful tips to make your beeswax candles in a jar last as long as possible.

1. Store them in a cool, dry place

Beeswax is sensitive to heat and sunlight. If your candles get too warm, they may soften or discolor. Therefore, store them in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight, and away from heat sources such as radiators.

2. Let the candle burn long enough the first time

When first using the candle, it's important to let it burn long enough for the entire top to liquefy. This prevents tunneling (where the candle develops a hole in the center and doesn't burn completely) and ensures an even burn.

3. Keep the fuse at the correct length

A wick that's too long will create a large, flickering flame and soot buildup, while a wick that's too short can result in a weak flame. Trim the wick to about 5-7 mm before each use to ensure clean and even combustion.

4. Protect the candle from draughts

Drafts can cause the flame to burn unevenly and produce soot. Place your candle in a draft-free location to ensure a stable flame and more efficient combustion.

5. Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame

Blowing out a candle can produce smoke and soot. Instead, use a candle snuffer to gradually extinguish the flame and preserve the candle's quality.

6. Clean the pot if necessary

Dust and dirt can accumulate on the pot, especially if it's left unused for extended periods. You can easily wipe the outside of the pot with a damp cloth to keep it looking fresh and stylish.

7. Store unused candles properly

If you're not using beeswax candles in a jar for an extended period, store them with the lid on to prevent dust and dirt. This also helps preserve the candle's natural scent.

8. Use a heat-resistant surface

Although the candle is in a jar, the bottom may become warm while burning. Place the candle on a heat-resistant surface to prevent damage to furniture.

With these simple care tips, you can enjoy the warm, inviting glow of your beeswax candles in a jar for longer. Do you have any other tips? Let us know in the comments!
